Emergency Procedures and Revisions: When Something Goes Wrong in Colombia
Early complications (bleeding, infection, seroma) are managed by clinic consultation or ER evaluation. Late complications (delayed healing, scarring, nerve injury) are managed outpatient or with revision surgery. You have 24/7 access to surgical team. Emergency surgery at JCI hospital is covered by original surgical fee. Revision surgery for surgeon error is typically covered; aesthetic revisions cost 40–60% of original. Serious complications requiring ICU care ($500–$1,500/night) may be covered by medical tourism insurance. Legal recourse exists through Superintendencia de Salud complaints or civil lawsuit. Document everything; take photos; save medical records and communications. If complications arise after you return home, you can pursue revision in US or return to Colombia (many clinics offer discounted revisions within 1–2 years).
